Handicap Vans

Now if there was one highly useful item that makes a handicapped person’s life a little easier to get along with its one of those specially adapted handicap vans. These vehicles are an absolute miracle when you need to get to someplace and its either too far to get on your own on your handicap scooter or the weather is too bad and you’ll have an accident if your not careful!

So what are these handicap vans all about then?

Well, the one that I use is an adapted MPV that has the center seats removed and a special handicap ramp fitted that is extensible so that I can easily wheel my chair on or off without worrying too much if I’m going to fall or slide off and hurt myself! Once I’m on board, there are special locking brackets that secure my chair so I don’t go slipping and sliding all over the place when the vehicle is rolling off down the road or going around a corner, or braking at a set of traffic lights or some such.

I know of other folks who use an actual panel van that has some similar adaptation for their chair. These are a little roomier but the trade off is there are no windows in the sides so they are a little more claustrophobic being as you can only see out the front windscreen at where you’re going!

Bit either way, these vehicles mean that I can go visit folks across town, or go on trips to places of interest that are out of town or just about anything I want to do within reason. You know, I’m thinking to plan a trip to Vegas one of these days just so as I can get to see it for myself and try my luck at the tables. I am of course assuming that casinos cater for guys like me in wheelchairs, cause they’d be losing a whole ton of potential business if they didn’t! But that’s a topic for a future post, I guess. See you again soon!
